Carnival Foundation Donates $100,000 to Harris Methodist Health Foundation

Contribution to Boost Women & Infants' Health Programs

DALLAS (January 23, 2007) — The Carnival Foundation, the charitable arm of Minyard Food Stores, Inc., has donated $100,000 to Harris Methodist Health Foundation to support  two outstanding programs at Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital.

The Center for Women and Infants' Health at HMFW, which offers a wide range of obstetrical and gynecological services, will receive $50,000 toward their $16.5 million renovation and expansion project.   The center pioneered the first Level III perinatal and neonatal care facilities in Tarrant County and offers an Antenatal Assessment Center, a Family and Breastfeeding Resource Center, an associated midwife group, and a full array of gynecology services.  The remaining $50,000 will help create an endowment to provide Cardiovascular Risk Assessments through HMFW's Wellness for Life Mobile Health program.  The comprehensive health information and early detection screening services will be provided to the public at multiple Carnival, Minyard and Sack 'n Save stores in Tarrant County on a monthly basis.

"We feel a responsibility to the families in the neighborhoods that we serve," said Michael D. Byars, chief executive officer for Minyard Food Stores of Coppell, Texas, which operates the foundation. "This money will help Harris Methodist provide its award-winning services to more women and babies in our community."

Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital is the area's leading perinatal referral center for high-risk pregnancies. Self magazine has recognized it as one of the nation's top 10 hospitals in which to have a baby, and the readers of Fort Worth Child magazine selected it as having the "Best Childbirth Education" programs and for being the "Best Place to Have a Baby."

"Carnival's generous gift means so much to Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital and its ability to serve the families in our community and the North Texas region," said Doug White, president of the Harris Methodist Health Foundation.  "We are exceedingly grateful they have chosen to support this exciting project that impacts thousands of women and their families and look forward to a long-term partnership of reducing the prevalence of cardiovascular disease in the underserved neighborhoods we jointly support."

The Carnival Foundation raises money through an annual golf tournament it sponsors and to which the company invites its vendors. Last year's event was in October at Bear Creek and hosted 74 four-member teams (296 people) sponsored by and comprised of 58 vendors, brokers and distributors.
