Time to Party: New Flagship Carnival Super Market Opens Doors in Southwest Oak Cliff
Prizes, Ceremonies, Free Screenings Mark Unique Supermarket DebutDALLAS (Aug. 28, 2006) — Howdy! ¡Hola! Shake it up! It's time to celebrate the grand opening of the new flagship Carnival Super Market at 3434 W. Illinois Ave., just west of Westmoreland Road. Opening week promises to bring fun and festivities for the entire family.
Amid festive balloons and the melodies of a mariachi band, the ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30. During the event, a priest and a minister will bless the new, 56,000-square-foot grocery store and local dignitaries and top Carnival Supermarket executives will say a few words to celebrate the occasion.
The first 100 customers in the doors will receive giveaways that include valuable coupons for a variety of store items. Free glucose screenings will be available in the farmacia (pharmacy) between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
There will be a drawing for prizes that include a pickup truck, a motorcycle, a 32-inch TV, 10 $100 gasoline cards, a four-day Disney vacation, and a washer and dryer.
Also on opening day, FC Dallas/Verizon will sponsor a tailgate party in the parking lot (5-7 p.m.), and there will be a Monster Truck sampling tent in the morning and in early evening.
The fun runs through Labor Day weekend and beyond. Following is a sampling of the family-oriented events scheduled between Sept. 2 and 4:
- Balloon artists on 9/2, 3-7 p.m.; on 9/3, 1-5 p.m.; and on 9/4, 3-7 p.m.
- Free glucose screening on 9/2, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
- Face painting on 9/2, and 9/4, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
- Hatch chili pepper roasting on 9/2, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. and on 9/3, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
- FC Dallas player appearance on 9/3, 3-4:30 p.m.
- The Oscar Meyer Weinermobile on 9/4, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
- Live band, 9/2, 6-8 p.m.
- Mariachis on 9/3, 3-4 p.m.
- Dr Pepper Radio remote on 9/2, 2-4 p.m.
- DJ in parking lot on 9/3, noon-4 p.m.
